Beaver Fact of the Week: Beavers are Vocal

How come there was never a page for beavers in all those children’s book about the different sounds animals make? Yeah yeah – cows go moo. Ducks go quack. Everybody knows that. But what sounds do beavers make? Do beavers even make sounds?

YES! Beavers are in fact quite vocal. They communicate with each other via distinct grunts, grumbles, and barks. It sounds sort of like they are whining, but in a really cute way. Describing their vocalizations in words doesn’t do it justice, so here is a youtube clip of beaver vocalizations.
